Fire Chief Application
As you may know, Chief Boyd Johnson has announced his intention to retire as Fire Chief at the end of 2008, after 20 years of service to his community. To be honest, a want ad for this position should read, "Wanted. A service-minded individual who lives in the North San Juan Fire Protection District. The successful applicant will be expert in every aspect of firefighting and emergency medicine, willing to put in umpteen hours per week, available 24/7/365 for emergency responses, and content to do all this for very little money."
Nonetheless, if you wish to be considered, you can get a copy of the application form at the office on Tyler-Foote, or by download by clicking here.
Budget Revision
The September Revision of the FY 2008-2009 Preliminary Budget was approved at the September 16 Board meeting. It is available for download at the left of this page and on the District Finances page of this web site.
North San Juan Website
Did you know theat North San Juan has its own website? Cleverly named northsanjuancalifornia.com, it is clearly a work in progress, but is a very pretty site with a lot of promise. Give it a look and follow its development!
Multiple-Call Days
Monday, August 11, 2008, NSJVFD was "toned out" for four emergency responses. This begged the question, "How many multiple-call days do we have?" A little research revealed that, since the beginning of calendar year 2003, we have responded to three calls on 55 days, to four calls 24 times (including yesterday), to five calls on 4 occasions, and on January 3, 2004 we responded to a record seven calls! All the more reason to thank our volunteers for their service!
New District Map
Working with the Nevada County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo), the physical size and shape of your Fire Protection District has been defined and stabilized for the next decade. If population growth requires, your district may grow to the East, eventually perhaps including Malakoff Diggins and North Bloomfield. From North to South, the district will continue to provide services from the South Yuba to the Middle Yuba, as has historically been the case. A new map of the district, showing its current boundaries as well as the limits of its "sphere of influence" for the next two 5-year periods, is included on the "The District and Our Mission" page of this site.
Historic Photo of Bellett Station (Sta. 3) Site
A new addition to the "Gallery" page is a photo taken in the 1940s of the site of the future Station 3. Take a peek. It's interesting. Anyone who has other interesting photos of a fire-department-related nature is urged to make them available for inclusion on this site. They will be scanned and returned unharmed.
Note: Many of the documents available on this site, including the budget and the District map, are in PDF format. If Acrobat Reader is not installed on your computer, you can download it free by clicking here.
