Amazingly up-to-date information on current fires in the West is available from
Wildland Fire: Home of the Wildland Firefighteer.

Information on nationwide fire and weather conditions is available from the
National Fire Information Center.

California fire information is available from the home page of the
California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (CDF).

A little closer to home, there's a lot of interesting information, both general and fire related, on the
YubaNet Web site for the Gold Country and Northern Sierra Nevada,
or on the
YubaNet FireBlog.

Perhaps the richest source of local information on wildfire and fire safety is the
Fire Safe Council of Nevada County (FSCNC).
The FSCNC is "a coalition of public and private partners that share a common interest in wildfire prevention and public education." Some time spent exploring their web site will be far from wasted.

Nevada County has taken the lead in creating a resource directory that will be of extraordinary value for the entire community.

The www.Dial211.com website (click on image above) includes over 1,000 agencies and services for the citizens of Western, Southern and Eastern Nevada County, including the Truckee-Tahoe region and surrounding areas.

Resources are focused on health and human services and include: non-profits, city, county, state and federal government services.

The Ridge is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings!
Although the NSJFPD doesn't endorse any of their products or activities, your neighbors on San Juan Ridge surely are an interesting bunch!
The following are sites that I personally find interesting. There is no attempt to be all-inclusive, and I have to be the final judge of what to include, but if you have a site that you think would be particularly interesting to the Ridge community, please let me know about it at
webmaster@nsjfire.org.

First of all, do you have a need for a web site like this one? Even though I keep it up, all the really hard work was done by Masa Uehara, who designed and built the original site. Masa is one of your many talented neighbors on the Ridge. She was a founding member of the North Columbia Cultural Center, and designed and built the website you will see below for the Story Telling Festival, among many others. For more information, check out her website!

There are so many places to go and things to see on the Ridge I hesitate to even begin, but how about I get you started with the covered bridge at Bridgeport, the rest of the South Yuba River State Park, Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park and North Bloomfield, and (although I have to stretch the Ridge to get you there) the Sixteen to One Mine in Allegheny?

Have you been to the Sierra Storytelling Festival at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center? This is but one of the many events presented by NCSCC all year long. Become a member and support this true treasure of the Sierra Nevada!

How about Ananda Village? Founded in 1968, members of this community believe we can better understand ourselves and our place in the world through yoga and meditation.
********************
Close to Ananda is the Sierra Family Medical Clinic. This rural, yet fully equipped, medical center provides a full range of medical services, including mental health counseling and dentistry, to a patient base of over 3000 individuals from Nevada and Yuba counties.

Did you know that arguably the premier manufacturer of starters and other high-performance parts for drag racers is right here on the Ridge?
Check out RCD Engineering and be amazed!

To partake of the produce of the fields through Community Supported Agriculture we offer Mountain Bounty Farm and for the fruit of the vine Double Oaks Winery.

Need a little something for that special someone?
You can find just about anything on the Ridge, especially high quality! Look for exquisite designer jewelry at Extasia and for more jewelry and other gifts at Sacred Ways. For still more jewelry, plus fragrences, oils and bath salts,
look to Secret Gardens.
Moving up in size, you will be amazed at the creativity and craftsmanship of chairs, desks, and other one-of-a-kind furniture items from Robert Erickson. Additional unique items of garden art and furniture can be found at Hidden Spring Designs. Speaking of gardens, I cannot imagine anything more delightful than turning a corner in a garden and coming upon one of the whimsical creations from Faducci. Check it out!
Moving up again in scale, how about an entire home, hand-crafted in the classic post-and-beam style by Sierra Timberframers? For more conventional homebuilding needs, you might also want to look in on Ananda Construction.
